vinyl sunday!
i keep forgetting that i have this on my phone just for a vinyl sunday. my favorite appleseed cast album!
I’d been trying to avoid Waterloo, since I need to be putting money towards moving and such. I had to make a quick trip downtown yesterday, and uh… accidentally picked this up. I used to think Two Conversations was my favorite record of theirs, but with a few years’ perspective Peregrine tops it handily.
City Center - Spring St.
i have no idea who this band is or if they are any good, but damn that is one fine lookin’ record album.
holy crap, agree.
I’ll endorse the Sonic Youth entry at the very least, and not even necessarily because of Sonic Youth (as that part mainly only influenced whether I encountered the album artwork sooner rather than later, let alone saw it printed in a bigger size [LP packaging]), thankfully.
I had no idea the sonic youth cover was by John Fahey. (my collecting of Baizley vinyls has expanded my musical knowledge in many directions, 9 months ago I wouldn’t have known who Fahey was).
Clearly though, the voters on NME were voting more on musical popularity than artistic merit. (Muse? Green Day? D: )

anybody who lives in chicago has probably had the distinct pleasure of shopping for records AT dusty groove (in what seems to me to be an indeterminate neighborhood in between wicker park and ukranian village). like permanent or laurie’s planet of sound or metal haven, it has its own distinct feel and smell and quality of light; i don’t slam reckless because they know what the hell they’re doing too but these little places have an even more mom and pop feel that makes them feel like tiny treasures.
but you kind of expect mom and pop places to be a little more rinky dink, and until this week i had no idea what a classy fucking mail-order operation dusty groove runs. i’m sending a present to a friend who moved to california and knew they would have it. what i didn’t know was that they do free gift wrap with free notecards, and they send you tracking numbers and confirmations for your shipments without you having to request anything. they’ll backorder all kinds of stuff for you, no matter how long shot it is. their prices are great and their shipping is reasonable.
i can’t say i’m surprised, but i’m really impressed. they could get away with having a crappy web site and a great store, but they go that extra mile to make themselves relevant and give people even more of a reason to actually buy a damn record.
I don’t really remember it being that bright inside, but I do remember it being very hip, moreso than I was when I dropped in.
Vinyl Sunday: The rather cheesy, but at least different, packaging for slayer’s Psycopathy Red. It was supposed to be a Record Store Day exclusive, but somehow waterloo got a copy of it a month later or so. Which I promptly acquired.
lavenderlines:(via funeralface)I see Bjork, Black Keys, and Blank Dogs
Bad Brains was the first one that lept out at me
