Pelican - End of Seasons (Prefuse73 remix)

I have given up on ever understanding the fascination with Pelican. March into the Sea was a nice song, but I’m considering them a one-hit-wonder + remix fodder at this point. The Fire in Our Throats Will Beckon the Thaw sounded like a blatant and toothless ISIS ripoff, and everything since has been moreso. It’s not to say that I dislike instru-metal - Russian Circles, Collapsar, Behold… The Arctopus, Stinking Lizaveta - all do interesting things with the concept. Pelican, despite being the Pitchfork favorite, is patently boring.

Prefuse73 is not, and this remix is awesome. I also mightily dig the Justin Broadrick remix of Angel Tears. I was hoping their collaborative split with These Arms are Snakes would yeild something more interesting, but alas, both it, and their release of the song (backed with this remix) are worthwhile only for the other contributions to the record.

Eighty-one Seconds mix

So here’s my response to YewKnee’s mix. I changed the requirements, after Inky’s recommendation - my upper limit is the eponymous Eighty-one seconds. That resulted in more Songs (less intro’s and outro’s) than the 60 second limit. Well, I could’ve had more songs under the minute mark, but it would’ve swayed the mix heavily in the grindcore/powerviolence direction. At 81 seconds, you get a pretty nice cross section of my musical taste. Enjoy:

Prefuse 73 - Class of 73 Bells (feat. School of Seven Bells)

This was how I first heard of School of Seven Bells - I misremembered the description, and thought they were Yet Another Guillermo Scott Herren Side Project. I’ve been obsessing over both artists lately, and this song is a great transition between the two.
