Vinyl Sunday: The Downward Spiral reissue
Buying vinyl at Hot Topic is strange. It’s my birthday, or close enough for them to give me $5 off, which brought this album back from the realm of too-much-to-spend-on-a-reissue.
I’d always put this on my list of top 5 albums of all time, but it was getting to be a while since I’d actually listened to it. Goddamm it’s beautiful. And the album art is much more impressive at 24”x24”

“Hurt” by Johnny Cash + “Make It Wit Chu” by Queens of the Stone Age
(posted by bunkercomplex)Certainly not your typical mashup
MASSIVE negative points, due to the lack of credit regarding the fact that, %^&*!, that song isn’t by Johnny Cash, it’s a cover of the Nine Inch Nails song that is recorded by Johnny Cash (with Rick Rubin, if you want to get even MORE technical, but that’s not my actual point). It’s been so bad that when Nine Inch Nails came back and played Coachella really early on in their return, a newspaper had a close-up picture of Trent singing, talking about how he was performing Johnny Cash’s song, “Hurt.”
sheesh. which newspaper? that’s pathetic. not crediting the cover, when the lyrics aren’t even used… i can’t give that a neg. i assumed it was obvious that it’s a nine inch nails cover. with rick rubin? because he rubber stamped it? no, sorry. and as far as the cover, let’s remember that trent himself said “I just lost my girlfriend, because that song isn’t mine anymore.”

Underneath it all
We feel so small
The heavens fall
But still we crawl

The Fragile is still my favorite album of his. Okay, maybe favorite is the wrong word. The one I feel most connected to.
Nine Inch Nails fans got more than they bargained for last night (Aug. 23) at New York’s tiny Webster Hall, as they witnessed the Trent Reznor-led band play its 1994 classic The Downward Spiral in its entirety for the first time ever.
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU—
I saw this on blabbermouth earlier, and while I was terribly jealous that he’s not doing a small show in Texas (I have friends in Chicago who are going), the first commenter’s reference to Trent’s recent comments was on point. Still, I hear there’s a high-quality recording of the show floating around, I’ll have to look for it. Like most people my age, The Downward Spiral was profound at the time.

Trent Reznor is very good at providing a service. In this case, that service is to give voice to the very frustrated part of you that wants to scream something intense and sorta insane like “the clouds will part and the sky cracks open and God Himself will reach His fucking arm through just to push you down, just to hold you down” and totally mean it.
I haven’t seen NIN since the fragility tour, and I can’t say I feel like I’ve missed much - his newer albums, while good in their own right, don’t really provide that service anymore.

Sometimes I worry that my musical taste is too young for me. But then I go on an auto-reblog-inthefade binge, and I feel less like a young’n (in the sense that I have some tastes that are too old for me, too).
