Heather’s theme song lately SNAILFACE

Photo: oldtobegin: there had been a great disaster.the hot winds came just after.a tremendous shock was felt. survivors often tell…the trees all hit the ground.death was all around. but. not a single lonesome sound.

But we might just get in,
If we beg to the cross on the wall.”

Text: The Gaslight Anthem vs. Counting Crows

So there’s a VERY strong similarity in The Gaslight Anthem’s “High Lonesome” and Counting Crows “Round here” lyrics.

(someone may already have pointed this out, I don’t know).

Counting Crows:

Maria came from Nashville with a suitcase in her hand/She said she’d like to meet a boy who looks like Elvis

Gaslight:

And Maria came from Nashville with a suitcase in her hand/I always kinda sorta wished I looked like Elvis

Just something I noticed.

Minus points for Gaslight for referencing the Counting Crows.

This was an intentional reference. It’s been pointed out before, but it’ll be nice to discuss it.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with them giving a nod to the Counting Crows. The lyrics fit perfectly.

If you ever get a chance to see the Gaslight Anthem live—TAKE IT. They’re simply amazing.

I’m sorry, but the Counting Crows are one of those bands who make me irrationally angry. However, I don’t step down from my position that the Counting Crows are fucking awful bro music and I still respect Brian Fallon less for referencing a Counting Crows song.

Agreed.  Intentional references are usually great, but Counting Crows are horrible.  I still have trouble reconciling Between the Buried and Me’s talent with their name coming from a counting crows lyric.
