Cursive - “A Gentleman Caller”
“hi! just wanted to say that my last domain/webspace was from a cursive song too :D (aftercrash.org)
high five to us!”– nikography
apparently I’m not a very good Cursive fan, I don’t know what song that’s from? I didn’t get into them until Domestica.

“Shallow means, deep ends
When the regret sinks in
Pressure erupts
Which way is up? Swimming at night
We’ve finally hit bottom
Swallowing promises back into our lungs
Losing direction of our affections, all right”

Listening to Cursive last night reminded me how excellent Tim Kasher’s extended metaphors on Domestica and The Ugly Organ are.
“Whatever you need to make you feel like you’ve been the one behind the wheel. The sunrise is just over that hill; the worst is over. Whatever I said to make you think that love’s the religion of the weak - this morning we love like weaklings. The worst is over.”

the lyrics for this are SO worth looking up - i’m tempted to post them here, but i’m a little older than that. they’ll always be relevant - there will always be artists that need to hear this song.
lyrics on songmeanings. also: to old to post lyrics = dead.
We’re at our best when it’s from our hips
From our hips we don’t give a shit
It just feels good, and that’s no sin
It’s the only way to feel alive
The closest thing to being born again
And when baby comes, it’s “job well done”
Roll in the hay, or roll around the sun
We’re at our worst when it’s from our lips
From our lips we caused a rift
And this world is falling in
From Babel to barroom brawls
Our words have formed a death sentence
And I wish that we had never talked
Our hips said it all
I can’t not reblog this, since it’s the name/url of my tumblr.

Cursive - Universal Shrug
My other Record Store Day purchase - Cursive’s split with Ladyfinger. My longstanding obsession with Cursive has led me to purchase both their new full length and this split despite not being impressed with their first singles. This EP is a little more worthwhile, as I like the unreleased song, and the Ladyfinger (ne) stuff.
Apologies for the quiet track - this is my first go at recording from this record player.

You might think from the title of my tumblr and the URI, that I really like the new Cursive album. I don’t. I just think the sentiment of From The Hips goes well with the off-the-cuff nature of tumblr. I miss the angry guitar work, and the vocal trade-offs with Ted Stevens. The new album is whiny emo that would make more sense on either of their side projects (The Good Life or Lullaby for the Working Class).
