Me and Jane Doe // Charlotte Gainsbourg
Fascination lies somewhere in the structures of gestalt, in the poignancy of the absurd and in sitting still on the banks of a stream of consciousness.
It doesn’t necessarily make sense though.
vinyl sunday: Charlotte Gainsbourg, IRM
something about the way the gatefold opens makes me feel like even more of a crepe.
Charlotte Gainsbourg & Beck Live at KCRW - “Heaven Can’t Wait”.
“she looks young”
“which is funny, because she’s old”
Charlotte Gainsbourg - IRM“Take a picture, what’s inside? Ghost image in my mind? Can you see a memory? Tell me where the trauma lies — in the scan of pathogen, or the shadow of my sin?”.
So, it hadn’t occurred to me to figure out what IRM stood for. When Immlass brought it to my attention that it’s the french equivalent of MRI, and that the song was based on Charlotte’s experiences with the machines, my mind was blown. Listening to it now, I can’t imagine having ever missed that the track is basically the closest approximation of her singing over an ominous machine.
